visiTOUR.US presented with our development partners CatalogIt on the topic of “Leveraging Digital Tools to Promote Access to Collections” at the Small Business Association conference in Gaithersburg, Maryland to a packed house. Museum professionals from all over the country watched the documented evolution of the groundbreaking visiTOUR.US project at the McFaddin-Ward House Museum in Southeast Texas, the one that started it all. From staff collaboration, workload resources, entering items into the CatalogIt Collection Management System, designing and building the framework of the visiTOUR.US platform and adding content and panoramic images for a rich virtual experience, Rayanna Hoeft, Todd Hoeft and Dan Rael outlined the steps in an effort to help other institutions prepare for their own virtual experience journeys.
Then, visiTOUR.US joined CatalogIt at their exhibit table to talk about the synergies between the two platforms: how items already managed in the CatalogIt collection engine can be easily imported into visiTOUR.US with a single click, and how changes in CatalogIt collections are automatically reflected in visiTOUR.US digital experiences with no extra effort at all.
